Using a word processor to create your SoFoBoMo book

We've put some notes online about how to make a SoFoBoMo book using a word processor. Many successful SoFoBoMo books have been made this way - no specialist design software needed. The notes are here.

SoFoBoMo is Go!

It is now 06:00 in S.E. Asia, and SoFoBoMo has officially started here. Europe is just going live. London in an hour. Yes, SoFoBoMo runs in local time, although the official countdown on the home page is linked to GMT. As the timezones pass into 1st June, the World slowly goes live. But you don't have to start right away, just so long as you finish and submit by 23:59 on 31st July and don't take more than 31 consecutive days. That also means, to take full advantage of the 31 day window, you have until this time on 1st July to start (starting later than that is OK, but you'll have less time to finish). We're not going to track everyone's timing, we're on the honour system here but if you cheat, you'll be cheating yourself and everyone else who takes part. We also encourage participants to join the discussion on the forums - while the submission is a solo project, this is a community event. Good luck!

Maps and books and names

Account management is now live. Behind that modest sounding announcement there is a whole bunch of improvements to the site. You can now name your 2010 project. You can commit to when you are going to do it. You can put your pin in the map. You can more easily add your real name. You can select your avatar and your flag. And you can do all the stuff you'd expect to be able to do like manage email addresses and timezones. Log on and select 'your account' or the 'manage your account' button and away you go.
